In short
MaDose was built on the Privacy by Design principle.
- No account: you do not sign up or give your name, email address or phone number.
- No data collection: we receive none of the information you enter in the app.
- No medication names: the app never asks which medication or supplement you take.
- Everything stays on your phone: your information is neither sent over the Internet nor backed up to the cloud.
- No ads, no analytics, no tracking.
1. Information stored on your phone
To work, MaDose stores the following information only in your phone's memory, in a space reserved for the app that other apps cannot access:
| Information | What it is used for |
|---|---|
| Colour and icon chosen for each item | Let you recognize your pills without naming them |
| Optional nickname (e.g. "Morning pill") | Help you tell your items apart |
| Optional photo of the pill | Let you recognize it at a glance |
| Quantity left and alert threshold | Warn you when it is time to refill the bottle |
| Reminder times | Trigger notifications at the right moment |
| Dose history: for each reminder time and each date, "taken" or "skipped", and when it was logged | Show today's doses, yesterday's doses still to confirm, and the calendar of complete or incomplete days |
| Creation date of each item and each reminder time | Avoid counting doses before their creation as missed |
| Premium status (yes or no) | Unlock Premium features, even without an Internet connection |
| Follow-up reminder setting | Remind you of an unconfirmed dose after the delay you chose |
| Welcome tour seen (yes or no) | Show it only on first launch |
| Version of the terms of use accepted, and date of acceptance | Ask for your agreement again only if the terms change |
Dose history. It stays only on your phone until you delete it. You can delete it at any time in Settings > History > Clear history; the history of a reminder time is also deleted when you remove or change that time. It is not included in the encrypted backup.
Photos. If you add a photo, it is taken with your phone's camera app or picked from your images, then reduced and copied into MaDose's private space. It is not added to your gallery and is never sent over the Internet. MaDose has no ongoing access to your camera or your photos: only the image you choose is passed to it. A photo can reveal health information (the shape or imprint of a tablet): avoid photographing the pharmacy label.
Tip: the nickname is a free-text field. To protect your privacy, we recommend that you do not enter a medication name or any other health information in it.
Cap Commun never has access to this information. It does not leave your phone.
2. No automatic cloud backup
MaDose deliberately turns off Android's automatic cloud backup (Google Drive) and the transfer of its data to a new device. This choice protects your privacy.
Encrypted backup, when you choose (Premium). You can export your setup (items, photos, times, stock, thresholds and follow-up setting) to a file, then import it on another phone. Your dose history is not included.
- The file is encrypted on your phone (AES-256-GCM) with a key derived from a passphrase you choose. The passphrase is not stored anywhere.
- You decide where to keep the file (your Google Drive, an email to yourself, the device, etc.). Cap Commun never receives it.
- Without the passphrase, no one, not even Cap Commun, can read the file. If you forget it, the backup cannot be recovered.
- The service where you keep the file (for example Google Drive) applies its own privacy rules; it only sees encrypted content.
Without an exported backup, if you change phones or uninstall the app, your items and reminders will not be recovered.
4. Permissions requested
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Notifications | Send you reminders at the time you chose |
| Alarms and reminders (exact alarms) | Trigger the reminder on the minute, even when the phone is asleep |
| Run at startup | Reschedule your reminders after the phone restarts |
| Internet access and network state | Only for buying and checking Premium through Google Play |
| Google Play billing service | Allow the Premium purchase |
MaDose has no access to your contacts, location, microphone or files. Nor does it have ongoing access to your camera or photos: it only receives the photo you take or choose for a pill.
5. Notifications and lock screen
On the lock screen, MaDose notifications only say "You have a reminder" or "Refill needed", without the nickname, the photo or the number of pills left. The details appear only once the phone is unlocked.
6. Sharing with third parties
Cap Commun does not sell, rent or share any information with third parties, since it collects none. The app contains no ads, no analytics tool and no crash-reporting tool.
7. Security
Your information is protected by Android's security mechanisms, which keep each app's data separate. For the best protection, we recommend locking your phone with a PIN, a pattern or biometrics.
8. Retention and deletion
Your information stays on your phone for as long as you keep it. At any time, you can:
- delete an item and its reminders from the Inventory tab;
- clear your dose history in Settings > History;
- erase everything by uninstalling the app, or through Settings > Apps > MaDose > Storage > Clear data.
Since Cap Commun does not hold this information, it cannot view, correct or delete it for you. For transaction information sent by Google, see section 3.
9. Intended audience
MaDose is intended for people aged 18 and over. It is not designed for children.
10. MaDose is not a medical device
MaDose is a memory aid. It provides no medical advice, diagnosis or treatment recommendation, and it does not replace the advice of your pharmacist, your doctor or another health professional.
11. Your rights and privacy officer
Cap Commun complies with Québec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector and Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

12. Changes
If we change this policy, for example when a feature is added, the new version will be published on this page with its effective date. Any significant change will also be mentioned in the app's release notes on Google Play.
